Welcome!
Welcome to my little corner of the literary world! I’m Kate, an avid reader with a lifelong love affair with books. Here, I share my thoughts and feelings on the books I’m currently reading, offer recommendations based on your interests, and delve into the world of authors and writing. Whether you’re a fellow book lover or just curious about the magic of reading, I hope you’ll enjoy exploring this space with me.
The Book Goddess has existed in some form or another since 2015. After a 4 year hiatus, I’m ready to take on this new adventure together.
Where did the name “The Book Goddess” come from?
The name “The Book Goddess Reads” was inspired by the enigmatic Greek goddess, Hekate. A name similar to mine, at least in appearance, Hekate embodies the power of transformation and the exploration of the unknown. As a goddess of crossroads, magic, and the night, she illuminates the darkness and guides travelers through the labyrinth of the unknown. In a similar way, I hope to guide you through the literary world, uncovering hidden gems and shining a light on the magic within every story.

Hekate, the goddess of Witchcraft, wouldn’t be complete without her feline familiar, and what self-respecting witch is without one? Enter my ever-present muse, Smudge the Cat, who provides expert distraction techniques and the occasional judgmental meow on my reading choices.
Marginalia
the act of annotating, highlighting, and reflecting within the very pages of a book.
I have always been solicitous of an ample margin; this is not so much through any love of the thing in itself, however agreeable, as for the facility it affords me of penciling in suggested thoughts, agreements, and differences of opinion, or brief critical comments in general.
Edgar Allen Poe, 1844
Reading for me is more than simply turning pages. It’s about actively engaging with the text, and that’s where marginalia comes in. I find immense joy in actively engaging with the text. I believe that marginalia transforms reading from a passive experience into an active dialogue, fostering a deeper connection between reader and text.
A bit more About Me
Beyond the pages of a good book, you might find me at the cinema, spending time with friends and family or exploring local coffee shops. I’m a firm believer that reading should be an enjoyable experience, so I strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space for all book lovers.
