Welcome to The Book Goddess Reads! I’m so excited to finally share this space with you. As you may have guessed from the blog’s name, I’m a passionate reader with a particular fascination for the art of marginalia.
What is Marginalia?
For those of you not familiar with Marginalia, it refers to annotations, highlights, and personal reflections that we add to the pages of our books. It’s more than just underlining. It’s engaging with the text on a deeper level, like having a conversation with the author, or even the characters of the book that you’re reading. Making the reading experience truly your own.

My first experience with Marginalia was of course, in school when you make notes for your essay’s, but I found it really helped with the story sticking in my mind. I started highlighting funny passages, sad passages and before I knew I was making my own notes in the margins of my favourite books. I’d completely forgotten that I’d annotated one of my books when I lent a book to my friend. When she gave me the book back, she’d said how much she enjoyed my little scribbles. And since then I’ve just carried on.
In this blog, I’ll be sharing:
- My thoughts and feelings on the books I’m currently reading.
- In-depth reviews and analyses of my favorite reads.
- Tips and techniques for creating beautiful and meaningful marginalia.
- Exploring different annotation techniques, and uncovering the hidden depths of meaning within your favorite books
- Inspiration for your own annotation journey.
- And of course, plenty of discussions about all things books!
I believe that marginalia transforms reading from a passive experience into an active, creative process. It’s a way to connect with the text on a deeper level, to explore our own thoughts and feelings, and to create a unique and personal record of our reading journey.
I invite you to join me as we delve into the world of books and explore the magic of marginalia together.
